Our Adoption Process
We believe every animal deserves a safe, loving home and that the right match makes all the difference. Here’s how our adoption process works:
Adoption Requirement
- Must be 21 years or older
- Valid Emirates ID or UAE residence visa
- Landlord’s approval (if renting)
- A commitment to responsible, lifelong pet care
- Agreement to routine veterinary care and humane treatment
1. Submit an Adoption Trial Application
Fill out the Adoption Trial Application form to tell us about your lifestyle, home environment, and the type of pet you're looking for.
2. Meet & Greet
If your application matches an available animal, we will arrange a convenient in-person meeting for you to connect, ask questions, and understand compatibility better.
3. Home Check
A quick virtual or in-person visit ensures your space is safe and suitable for your chosen animal.
4. Trial Period (2 Weeks)
Take your pet home for a two-week trial. We’ll stay in touch and offer support during this transition.
5. Finalize the Adoption
If it’s a match, we’ll complete the paperwork and collect a one-time adoption fee to cover expenses.
Post-Adoption Support
- Training and Behaviour Support through connections with AWAD approved animal trainers.
- Veterinary and Health Guidance with access to AWAD approved clinics for ongoing vet care.
- Overseas relocation assistance through our "Pets Across Borders" initiative.

Featured Before and After Stories
Owner: Natalie Hunter Community: Al Raha Gardens “Cairo came into our lives unexpectedly, and within a day of fostering him we knew he was here to stay. Found abandoned in Al Raha Gardens, he joined us through the AWAD Community Cat Care Program (CCCP). Shy at first, Cairo quickly became part of the family, bonding with our cat, taking our kittens under his wing, and even learning to get along with our lively dog. He’s the biggest, fluffiest, most laid-back “lion” of a cat, and his presence has enriched our lives beyond measure. We can’t imagine home without his gorgeous, grumpy face. Welcoming him into our home hasn’t just improved his life, it has enriched ours too.”

From Abandoned to Beloved
Owner: Katya Carrington Community: Al Raha Gardens “My daughter first saw Dyuna, a young pregnant cat, outside in the warmth. We reached out to AWAD, and the volunteer took her for TNR. At the beginning, Dyuna struggled, so we took her into our home to help her recover after her surgery and keep her away from heat. As we followed her journey, we fell in love with her gentle nature and grew to admire how strong she was to go through so much at such a young age, she was only about 6–7 months old. We couldn’t imagine our lives without her. She became part of our family. We asked AWAD if we could adopt her, and they kindly supported us through the process. ”

Owner: Andret Rachel Community: Al Rayyana “Puzzle lived in the Al Rayyana compound, cautious and keeping her distance despite the feeding stations. Over time, we gained her trust, and she began waiting for us each evening. With the help of the AWAD Community Cat Care Program, she joined us on an adoption trial, which turned out to be a perfect fit. Everything went smoothly, and Puzzle became more comfortable and confident every day. Eventually, we officially adopted her, and she is now a permanent and beloved member of our family.”

Owner: Kathryn Du Toit Community: Al Raha Gardens “Over the December holidays, Guccino was sadly dumped in Al Raha Gardens. He was such a beautiful cat that at first I thought he must simply be lost. But it soon became clear he was struggling, unused to the harsh outdoors, he injured his leg while trying to fend for himself. Thankfully, AWAD stepped in to treat his injury, microchip, and vaccinate him. Since he needed time to rest and heal, I brought him home, and the rest is history. At first, Guccino was nervous around our dogs, but before long they became the best of friends. Now he’s the most loving, cuddly, and beautiful cat. When I look into his eyes, I can feel his gratitude for being given a second chance. In truth, we are the lucky ones to have him in our lives.”
